Black History Month Benefit Concert “Perseverance” @Donovan’s Garage

Category: Product ID: 28832

This “Donovan’s Garage” event celebrates Black HIstory Month in Evanston. The show will weave the rhythms of jazz with poetry and song to explore the tenacity of Black Americans in forging their distinctive path through the nation’s history. Evanston jazz guitarist Donovan’s ‘Justice Ensemble’ is a sextet of prominent Chicago improvising musicians, all of which are members of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM). This ‘new music’ ensemble will perform original and reimagined works reflecting the lives, traditions, and conditions of Black Americans through the writings of Maya Angelou, James Baldwin, Toni Morrison, Langston Hughes, the music of Billie Holiday and Donovan Mixon.
